Hatfield Elite Academy Holds Patron and Parents Day

Like every human organ, Hatfield Elite Academy went through growing pains. After three years of steady growing pains, the school held its first Patron and Parents’ Speech and Prize Giving Day.
Patron and Parents Day brings together parents, students, and staff to celebrate the achievements of the year and honor students and staff who have distinguished themselves.
This year was special because it was the first time all interested parties had been able to come together. Founded by ambitious school teachers, Blessing and his wife, Dr. Gallie Kawanzaruwa, and chaired by a young and ambitious 42-year-old dreamer, Mr. Thomas Chidavaenzi with experience in financial management, the school immediately suffered from the onslaught of Corona-19 virus. Only 15 students had registered when the authorities ordered the suspension of in-class activities.
There were eleven teachers to be paid.
Two years later, the school brought in the renowned educator and publicist, Professor Kenneth Mufuka from the US as its Patron, and Trustee.
A moral person
Immediately, the school’s mission was clarified and publicized. Based on the African American educator’s philosophy that the school’s product must be a moral person, Booker T. Washington recognized that a moral person without special skills was worse than useless to himself and the community.
Hatfield Elite Academy, therefore, while placing emphasis on moral development, it imposed a strict academic regiment with a bias towards international employability. The Patron, who had friends in high places, assured parents that learners who passed through the Academy were almost guaranteed places at Lander University (US) or at Africa University and Great Zimbabwe University.
The school’s mission is very clear. “The moral man adds something to the material, intellectual and moral well-being of the place in which he lives and is not left long without reward.” (Washington)
From 15 students in 2020 to well over 150 learners and a staff of 18, students, parents and faculty came together to celebrate a milestone.
Learners who earned top marks received certificates of appreciation. A teacher of the year, nominated by peers received recognition. But there was a surprise for teachers as well.
“We really did not expect a pre-Christmas bonus. Life is tough and we appreciated that gift from the Patron.” Said one teacher.
Headmaster, D. Senzere, was all smiles. “The Patron kept the bonus a secret and we appreciate it very much.” Sensere quickly added that because of steady growth, he encouraged parents to pre-register with him ahead of time. The school is looking for extra space to accommodate rapid growth.
Angeline Mikiri, Professor Mufuka’s representative, gave the celebratory speech.
A parent, whose daughter received a prize, told Ms. Mikiri. “ I am glad I came. I have only read about Professor Mufuka in the Standard newspaper. I did not know he has such love for our children.”
