We are Masvingo

                         By Prof Kasese

Whatever you can vividly imagine, ardently desire, sincerely believe and enthusiastically act upon, must inevitably come to pass. All tangible reality is the incarnation of the thought process. The strides the so called first world has taken in their business accomplishments spring out of man’s thought and an insatiable and voracious appetite to succeed. Before their lofty cities took visible form, before their condescending industries started producing superior products, before their technological networks become a marvel, they were conceived in someone’s mind. Then they were completed in their minutest detail, and then placed on blue prints before a single stone was laid.

The same shrine of thought and vision is entrusted to our will as Zimbabweans. We have it in us as people of Masvingo Province to consecrate the vision of our President His Excellency E.D. Mnangagwa of driving Zimbabwe to becoming a middle income economy by 2030 and equally so we can desecrate this great vision. Only we have the ability to make our plans to shine or make them an instrument of failure. It is our duty as citizens of Masvingo Province to incubate a spirit of conquest in the minds of all our stakeholders. This dreams will only remain a dream if the will of those who are supposed to act refuse to translate them into action. In this postponement lies the secret of so many failures, of so much mediocrity.

We all need to develop the desire, motivation and passion necessary to carry our dream of economic emancipation as we move towards 2030. A wish or a daydream has no substance and if kept for too long it can become a nightmare. It is vague, unformed if it is not supported by action. Without desire, motivation and passion, strong enough to produce action, we will achieve little, no matter how worthy our goals nor how workable the plans we have made are.

We need to trust in ourselves and know that we have skills and competence to manifest our dreams into tangible reality through the plans we have made. The most important source of confidence should be the knowledge that there are capable people in Masvingo Province who can make the necessary internal and external changes that are needed for the National Goals to become a reality. We should form a strategic alliance with planners outside our Province and if necessary in developed countries. Once we start working together, we will have mastered a key factor in putting the National and provincial plan into action.

We now need to adopt a productive mindset and determination to be able to follow through our written plans regardless of obstacles, circumstances or criticism being directed at us as a Province. The development of commitment and the acceptance of responsibility for the outcome of our initiatives should be the hallmarks of our refusal to be dissuaded, side tracked or steered off course by what others think or say. If the success of our plans and goals are to be followed through, they need to be transformed from being a dream and a talk show to a tangible reality. It is the responsibility of every stakeholder in the Province to see the process through.

One great writer had this to say; “If you pick a stone and randomly throw it in a street you are bound to hit a Professor”. Masvingo has a wonderful asset that cannot be replicated by any other Province in the country in the form of its people who are well educated and hospitable. Furthermore, the Province’s natural tourist attractions cannot be simulated by any other Province or country; therefore, I urge all our potential investors to take advantage of our attractive uniqueness. On our part as responsible citizens of Masvingo, it is incumbent upon us to develop our Province to compliment the peace that prevails among its citizens. Masvingo economic recovery provides several opportunities for investment across various economic sectors deemed as priorities for the Masvingo Provincial government. A visit to Masvingo is unarguably a date with history.
